The ALIA Framework of Skills, Knowledge and Ethics for the Library and Information Services Workforce (the Framework) is the agreed national expression of the skills, knowledge and ethics needed to work effectively in the LIS sector, and to provide high-quality library and information services. Originally released in November 2023 as the principal output of ALIA’s significant workforce project, the Framework was revised and updated in July 2025. LIS Workforce Code of Ethics Click the LIS Workforce Ethics button above. It is ALIA’s expectation that the Code of Ethics applies to every person working in and across library and information services, whether or not they hold library and information qualifications, or hold management, front-of-house or behind-the-scenes positions. We hope the Code of Ethics will help orientate people joining the Australian LIS workforce from other countries or sectors, articulating the commitment to ethical principles that underpin shared professional practice.
